Michelle Shin
Architecture is a tool for interacting with our communities; it brings people together, and therefore it should be equally accessible to every being.
Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, Michelle Shin spent much of her time at her family’s business: a restaurant that her father envisioned and designed himself. Her exposure to his sketches and garage, where he built custom millwork, morphed into a deeper interest in architecture’s critical role in fostering community and helping people age with dignity.
With this dual interest, Michelle prioritizes accessibility in her designs. She is partial to features that support aging in place, ensuring that built environments remain supportive and safe for individuals regardless of how their cognitive and physical abilities change over the years. She enjoys collaborating with clients in the senior living sector not only to enrich older age groups, but also to create spaces for younger generations to grow into.
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in interior design from the Pratt Institute. She regularly volunteers with Apex for Youth, an organization that empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth in New York City.
