Highlights from ICFF 2019
Summer is almost here and that means design trade show season is well underway!
The biggest NYCxDesign event this month is ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair), which took place from May 19 to 22 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. This year, over 900 exhibitors from all over the world gathered to showcase the latest and greatest in high end furniture, lighting, finishes, and accessories.
I spent a few hours exploring the show and here are my takeaways on the current trends.
Many of the high-end products at ICFF are geared toward hospitality and residential design, which vary greatly in styles and colors — as unique as the clients themselves. However, looking beyond these specialty items, the show had a fairly cohesive look to it. Many of the pieces evoked desert themes with rich textures over muted natural colors, balanced by deep rich greens and blues.
Though it’s not yet completely unfashionable, millennial pink is maturing into burnt orange and terra cotta tones contrasted by olive greens. Not too far removed from Coral, the Pantone color of the year, the exhibited products were a more saturated, lush, and sophisticated take on the pink and green complimentary color scheme.
Macramé and various rope textures were also common, seemingly a nod to southwestern trends that feel so right with the desert color scheme.
My personal favorites were these unconventional rocking chairs and funky portable outdoor lights.
Shows like the ICFF are a fantastic boost of inspiration to jumpstart the summer! I highly recommend you check it out next year, along with the many other exciting NYCxDesign events throughout the five boroughs.
