Intermediate Designer
Haruka Enokido
As architects and designers, we have a social and environmental responsibility to create an equitable, safe, and sustainable built environment.
Haruka Enokido’s work is driven by relationships of all kinds. As a skilled space-planner, she enjoys exploring the ways people interact with their surroundings and the flow that can be achieved between rooms through thoughtful design.
On a larger scale, Haruka’s work is fueled by the knowledge that buildings, and the services provide therein, can have transformative impacts on the community level. She is deeply invested in designing spaces that honor and prioritize accessibility and inclusivity, a focus that is further reflected in her volunteer work with international organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
Through her involvement in projects for the US Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Building Operations, Haruka has broadened her knowledge of complex building regulations, programming requirements, and innovative ways to fulfill both. Haruka’s design tendencies are influenced by the Japanese principles of simplicity and flexibility, both of which align with her sustainable practice.
As a member of Spacesmith’s Design and Sustainability committee, Haruka helps organize charettes where the team’s ideas can flow freely. She also researches energy- and water-efficient products—and keeps the firm’s database up to date—to reduce the overall carbon footprint of Spacesmith’s projects.
