Ezra Zuidema
AIA

I love seeing ideas leave the paper and digital worlds and manifest into something real and built.

Ezra Zuidema credits his father, an airplane mechanic and contractor, with his initial attraction to various forms of construction. He later discovered drawing and design as outlets for creative expression. Ultimately, he fell in love with architecture because it combines his favorite aspects of art and engineering.

Ezra’s process always begins with developing a deep understanding of a project’s end users and communities. While working in California, he gained experience collaborating with design-build contractors on all phases of complex healthcare projects throughout the state. As project manager for several Type 2 Skilled nursing facilities in San Diego, he navigated the building permitting process and led the team through construction administration. He is currently applying his technical knowledge to projects for luxury retail clients and the United Nations.

Outside of Spacesmith, Ezra uses hand sketching as a storytelling device and has a YouTube channel dedicated to his art. He also volunteers in the field; he has helped build homes in Mexico and Tanzania and is currently developing a residential project for his family in the Philippines.
