Cansin Yilmaz

When Cansin Yilmaz was searching for a graduate program the first time around, she gravitated towards Istanbul Technical University. The institution’s interior architecture curriculum—which caters to those with strong math and science backgrounds—appealed to Cansin, who takes an analytical approach to design challenges.

Cansin joined Spacesmith in 2023 after gaining several years of experience working at architecture and design firms in Istanbul, Turkey. Her fresh perspective is reflected in the precise, custom detailing she has developed for hospitality, retail, and commercial clients. She is particularly interested in the interplay of light and shadow and its influence on interior mood and functionality.

Originally from Turkey, Cansin earned her master’s degree in interior architectural design from Istanbul Technical University and her PhD in interior architecture from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. In her free time, she designs furniture and homewares for her small-scale product design company, Claws Studio.
