Spacesmith partnered with Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) to transform a century-old historic building into new administrative offices—placing BBP staff closer to the park they design and maintain.
The reimagined building also houses the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, as well as storage and operational space for park maintenance and security. Additionally, a dedicated learning center and community room—accessible via a separate entrance—was incorporated to serve local groups and educators.
The key design elements included a full gut renovation of the ground floor to reveal the original structural bones, a new façade openings between structural bays to flood the space with natural light, custom open-plan workstations, and strategic reuse of original materials to reduce costs, and minimize waste.
The final design maintains an open, loft-like feel with exposed columns and bold color-blocking to define zones within the space. The updated façade introduces a new sense of transparency and civic presence to the solid masonry exterior.
