Spacesmith recently completed a new home for Part of the Solution (POTS), a community based organization that serves people in need by providing food, clothing, counseling and other supportive services. The 15,000 sf loft building located in the Bronx has been transformed into a newly renovated community facility that includes a full service kitchen and dining area, food pantry, counseling services, a clothing program, shower, barber, and medical suite containing exam rooms and dental operatories. The full gut renovation included replacing the first floor structure, installation of an elevator, full restaurant style kitchen and freezers and new MEP systems throughout. The facade was entirely redesigned to imbue the building with a sense of solidity and permanence. A primary concern of the design was to instill POTS’ clients with a sense of dignity and belonging. To that end, the principle concept of attending to body, spirit and mind was translated into the physical arrangement of floor functions for; hygiene, food service and counseling support.
